WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) yesterday questioned the Biden administration’s resolve to conduct a thorough and true investigation into the origins of COVID-19 and the actions of the Chinese Communist Party at a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing with Dr. Vivek Murthy, the Surgeon General and President Biden’s nominee to be the Representative of the United States on the Executive Board of the World Health Organization. Dr. Murthy co-chaired President-elect Joe Biden’s COVID-19 Advisory Board prior to his appointment as Surgeon General.
“There are many folks at the WHO that claim to be committed to getting real answers on the pandemic and claim to be tough on China,” said Senator Ricketts. “But as soon as the Chinese Communist Party pushes back, for example, denies entry to a lab or refuses to allow a doctor or scientist access, they all back down and do nothing… The U.S. representative at the WHO needs to have a specific plan once they arrive on the job to get answers for the American people.”
