Ricketts Statement on Israeli President’s Speech

July 19, 2023

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) released the following statement after listening to Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s speech to a joint meeting of Congress.

“Israel is the legitimate homeland of the Jewish people and our strongest and closest ally in the Middle East. I was proud to visit on my first congressional delegation trip as U.S. Senator to emphasize the importance of the shared values and mutual interests of the United States-Israel relationship. The United States must remain steadfast in our commitment to provide Israel with the resources it needs to defend itself and preserve its military edge.

“I am grateful to have Nebraskans Rabbi Katzman and Fischel Ziegelheim join me as guests for President Herzog’s historic address.”

Senator Ricketts’ guests for the address were Rabbi Mendel Katzman, Executive Director of Chabad of Nebraska, and Fischel Ziegelheim, manager of WR Reserve, a kosher beef firm in Hastings, Nebraska. In 2016, WR Reserve became the first U.S. packing plant approved to ship beef to Israel after a 13-year ban was lifted.
