Ricketts, Schiff Lead Substance Use & Misuse Prevention Month Resolution

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Pete Ricketts (R-NE) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) introduced a resolution to designate October 2025 as Substance Use & Misuse Prevention Month in America.  Ricketts is a long-time champion for programs that combat the drug addiction and overdose epidemic in the United States.

“Drug overdoses are killing Americans,” said Ricketts.  “Substance use among adolescents is associated with continued substance use and misuse in adulthood.  In 2024, an estimated 48,000,000 people in the United States aged 12 and older had a substance use disorder.  This bipartisan resolution calls attention to the crisis and the need to support critical prevention programs.”

“Substance use and misuse affect millions of Americans each year, from every community and of all ages,” said Schiff.  “I am proud to join Senator Ricketts in supporting crucial prevention programs to combat the drug addiction and overdose epidemic in our country.”

The text of the resolution can be found here.
