Ricketts, Coons Lead Resolution in Support of Japan, Condemns Communist China’s Bullying
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Pete Ricketts (R-NE) and Chris Coons (D-DE), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations East Asia Subcommittee, introduced a resolution to reaffirm the Trump Administration’s unwavering support for the U.S.-Japan alliance. The resolution was introduced in response to Communist China’s political, economic, and military pressure on Japan. Senators Bill Hagerty (R-TN) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) co-sponsored this resolution.
“The United States will always stand strong with Japan,” said Ricketts. “Since 1951, our alliance has served as the cornerstone of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific. Communist China’s efforts to intimidate Japan — including economic coercion and the suggestion of beheading Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi — are unacceptable. We condemn Communist China’s aggression. America is united behind our ally.”
